How to Add and Style Text in Your Book
Great text turns a good page into a memorable one, and AnyTale gives you full control over how your words look. Follow these steps to add a text box, choose premium fonts, and style every line just the way you want.
1. Add a text box
Open your book in the editor and go to the page you want to work on. In the toolbar, click Text and choose Add a text box. A new box appears on the page with placeholder text ready for you to replace.
Drag the box to roughly where you want it, then double-click inside to start typing.
2. Edit your story text
Double-click any text box to enter edit mode, then type or paste your words. You can:
- Fix typos and rewrite sentences directly on the page
- Add line breaks to control how the text flows
- Highlight a word or phrase to style it on its own
Click anywhere outside the box to save your changes automatically.
3. Choose premium fonts and pairings
With your text selected, open the Font menu. AnyTale includes a curated library of premium fonts designed for children's books, from playful handwritten styles to clean, easy-to-read storybook serifs.
For a polished look, try one of our ready-made font combinations: a characterful display font for titles paired with a simple, legible font for body text. Pairings keep your book consistent across every page.
4. Use premium text boxes
Want something more than plain text? Open the Text styles panel and browse our premium text boxes. These are pre-designed layouts with built-in framing, color, and spacing, perfect for titles, dedication pages, and chapter openers.
Click any style to drop it onto your page, then replace the sample words with your own.
5. Adjust size, color, and position
Select your text box to reveal the styling controls:
- Size – use the slider or type an exact value to scale your text up or down
- Color – pick from the palette or enter a hex code to match your illustrations
- Alignment – set text left, center, or right
- Position – drag the box anywhere, or use the alignment guides to center it perfectly
Resize the box by dragging its corner handles, and rotate it with the handle on top for a creative touch.
6. Preview and fine-tune
Switch to Preview mode to see your page exactly as readers will. Check that your text is easy to read against the illustration, fonts feel consistent, and nothing runs off the page. Jump back to edit mode to refine anything that needs a tweak.
With a few clicks you can make every page look beautifully designed, so your story shines from cover to cover.
